For live concerts and orchestra performances featuring instrumental and vocal soloists and choral groups, with international reputation, Wallingford symphony orchestra society offers the best in Connecticut. Now in its 82nd season, Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra is the capital oldest non-profit community orchestra in Connecticut. It attracts soloists of national renown, including pianist Arthur Balsam, flutist Julius Baker, and bassist Karr whose hilarious performance of the Bottesini Grand Duo Concertante, with Renato as co-soloist, would never be forgotten. An annual student concerto competition also helps to discover and nurture new young talents.

Started in 2002 by conductor John Ringo and his wife Cheryl, Colchester Civic Orchestra is a nonprofit organization which has had tremendous growth over the years. With nearly 60 members from towns all over Connecticut, and performing at many venues such as, Sunset Sounds, the beautiful grounds of the Goodspeed Opera House, and Bacon Academy, it's truly an orchestra for the community.

A Premier Undergraduate Orchestra

Formed nearly a decade ago by a group of Yale students who sensed the need for an ensemble devoted to the performance of orchestra repertoire, The Yale Symphony Orchestra now enjoys a reputation as one of the premiere undergraduate orchestras in Connecticut, performing more than six concerts every year. The group has had tremendous achievements with the production of its annual Halloween show in full costume at its permanent place in Yale lore.

 

Having overcome numerous challenges and filled with constant experimentation, the orchestra not only as a music outlet for its players but also as an important venue of performance of new music. They have been honored to present national and world wide premieres of many works, among them the European premiere of Leonard Bernstein's Mass in 1973. Also their alumni have achieved rich music careers, and many have earned a worldwide reputation.
